All you need to know about dental implants

Dental implants are artificial metal structures fixed inside a person’s jawbones to replace the root of a damaged or decayed tooth. These implants are surgically placed to act as a framework for artificial teeth that can be attached. Dental implants are preferable to conventional dentures or bridges since they feel more natural in the mouth cavity and are comfortably worn by most people without complications.

Types of dental implants
Generally, two main types of dental implants can be surgically placed in your oral cavity. They are classified based on where they are placed in the jawbone. They are as follows:

Endosteal implants
In such dental implants, the framework is directly placed into the jawbone. This surgical procedure is carried out in two parts. After the implants are fixed in place in the first surgery, a specific waiting period is required to let the gum tissues heal around the implant. Once they are healed, the second surgery is carried out where one or more artificial teeth are attached to the implanted post.

Subperiosteal implants
In this type of surgery, the dental implant is placed on top of the jawbone just below the gum tissue such that the metal post protrudes out through the gums. After the gum around the implant has healed, the metal framework gets fixed to the jawbone, thereby accomplishing the goal of the first part of the surgery. Then, as with endosteal implants, the artificial tooth or teeth are attached to these implants once the gums have fully healed, and the implants are fixed in place.

Special offers on dental implants
Dental clinics often have certain offers and payment plans for those who need to get multiple dental implants or dental procedures done. Some common offers that can be found at most dental clinics are described as follows:

Full mouth set with dental implants
People who already have dentures are recommended to get a full mouth set of dental implants. In such situations, the dental clinic will often offer discounted rates for the overall procedure to help you save a lot of money in the long run. You can also opt for a payment plan that will allow you to pay small installments every month towards the cost of your procedure.

All-on-4 dental implants
Teeth-in-a-day implants with the all-on-4 are also for people who want full mouth implants regardless of whether they are repairing a broken or damaged tooth or just need a new set of teeth for other reasons. The all-on-4 plan covers the cost of four implants and the surgical placement procedures. Some also offer all-acrylic set teeth for one arch with this plan.

Cost of dental implants
On average, a single dental implant can cost anywhere from $1,000 to $4,500 in the more inexpensive dental clinics. If you prefer to get your treatment from a more established orthodontist, the overall cost can be much higher. This option is much more expensive as compared to ordinary bridges or dentures; since the success rate for this procedure is much higher, dental implants are the preferred option by the general public. However, most base-level medical insurance policies do not cover the cost of dental implants since it is considered an elective procedure instead of a standard treatment method for missing or damaged teeth. Some insurance policies may cover the implant crown, but the patient must pay the rest out of their own pockets. A full set of dentures can cost anywhere between $15,000 to $50,000 per arch depending on the discounts offered by the clinic.
